Candle Care

Thank you for choosing Luzara. Our candles are hand-poured in South Australia using premium soy wax and quality wicks. Follow these simple care tips to enjoy a safe, clean, and long-lasting burn.

Before Each Burn

  • Trim the wick to approximately 5mm before lighting.
  • Remove any wick trimmings, matches, or debris from the wax surface.
  • Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, curtains, and anything flammable.

Your First Burn Matters

  • Allow the wax to melt evenly across the entire surface on the first burn β€” usually 1–2 hours for our 60ml travel tin candles and 2–3 hours for our 235ml candles.
  • This full β€œmelt pool” prevents tunnelling and helps your candle burn evenly for its whole life.

Wood Wick vs Cotton Wick

  • Wood wick: Trim to around 3–5mm and remove any charred wood before relighting. A gentle crackle as it burns is completely normal.
  • Cotton wick: Trim to around 5mm and keep it centred in the wax pool, straightening it gently while the wax is still soft if it leans.

While It's Burning

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep away from children, pets, drafts, and anything flammable.
  • Burn for no more than 3–4 hours at a time, then let it cool before relighting.
  • Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings and debris.

When to Stop Burning

Stop burning once around 1cm (10mm) of wax remains in the base. This protects the container from overheating and gets the safest, longest life from every candle.

After the Candle

Many of our vessels β€” including our rose gold and white travel tins and glass jars β€” are designed to be reused. Once your candle is finished, clean out any remaining wax with warm soapy water and repurpose the container for storage, or as a small planter or trinket holder.

Storage

Store your candles in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight to protect their fragrance and prevent the wax from discolouring or softening.

Safety Reminders

  • Always burn on a heat-resistant, flat surface.
  • Keep away from drafts, vents, and anything flammable.
  • Never move a candle while the wax is liquid.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets at all times.
